Relatedness Needs in ERG Theory specifically address the importance of social interactions and interpersonal relationships that individuals seek in their personal and professional lives. Developed by Clayton Alderfer, ERG Theory categorizes human needs into three groups: Existence Needs, Relatedness Needs, and Growth Needs.

Relatedness Needs focus on the need for relationships with others, including the desire for acceptance, belonging, and the formation of connections. This encompasses the social aspects of our lives, emphasizing the importance of interpersonal relationships, friendship, and community.

In contrast, Existence Needs include the most basic requirements for survival, such as food, water, and safety. Growth Needs are related to self-improvement and personal development. Safety Needs encompass the need for stability, security, and protection from physical and emotional harm. Hence, these other categories do not align with the focus on social connections that Relatedness Needs perfectly encapsulate.
